About the Client
Eucerin is Beiersdorf’s dermatological skincare brand, with more than 125 years of skin science behind its products. The brand started with one Hamburg pharmacy and built its product development around dermatological research and collaboration with dermatologists. Today, Eucerin continues to sell through pharmacies, where customers can get professional advice about its products. The brand’s reach now extends to more than 60 countries.
About the PWA
A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a website that works more like an app. Users can add it to their phone’s home screen without downloading anything from an app store. A PWA provides an app-like experience from a single platform, without building separate iOS and Android apps. For learning platforms, portals, and other web applications, that means less time to build and easier maintenance.
The Challenge
The campaign had to keep busy pharmacists engaged for four months, not just get them through a training module they will quickly forget.
That created several requirements:
- Learning had to happen inside the game. Each challenge needed to teach something about Eucerin's products while awarding points.
- The experience had to work on a phone. Pharmacists would use it at the counter, so the interface had to be mobile-friendly.
- The scoring had to be consistent. Points, daily logins, monthly rewards, and the final leaderboard all had to follow defined rules.
- Creative work needed human review. Photo, video, and written product recommendations could not be scored automatically.
- The campaign needed exact timing. A Joker challenge that opened for only 24 hours and appeared just twice a month.
- Eucerin needed to run it without a developer. Their team had to manage the campaign, moderate entries, send notifications, and export winners themselves.
Our Approach
We designed the UX and UI and built the platform as an installable, mobile-first PWA. Behind the pharmacist-facing experience, we built a custom admin panel that gave Eucerin control over the campaign.
Six challenge types
Each challenge had its own rules and scoring logic:
- Quizzes: Per-question timers with instant scoring.
- Educational videos: Video completion tracking with questions unlocked only after the full video was watched.
- Product game: Custom drag-and-drop logic with all-or-nothing scoring.
- Creative uploads: Resumable uploads for large photo and video files over unstable connections.
- Product recommendations: Moderation workflow for reviewing submissions and awarding bonus points.
- Joker rounds: Scheduled challenge windows that opened and closed automatically at set times.
One scoring system
Challenge points and daily-login points were tracked separately, then combined for each monthly campaign cycle.
The point values were kept in one central file. When Eucerin needed to change a score, it could be updated in one place instead of being changed throughout the codebase.
Creative submissions and written recommendations went through a moderation queue. Eucerin’s team could always award bonus points based on submission quality.
Built for large file submissions
Photo and video entries were stored privately using time-limited signed URLs. Files were also mirrored into a second storage bucket with human-readable names, so the Eucerin team could locate individual pharmacy submissions without working through developer-only file references.
Three automatic campaign phases
The platform moved through three campaign states:
- Countdown before the campaign opened.
- Active competition while challenges were running.
- Wrap-up after the campaign closed.
The dates controlled the transitions automatically. Eucerin could also override the state manually from the admin panel.
Eucerin ran the campaign themselves
The admin panel covered:
- Scheduling challenges and questions
- Managing pharmacy accounts
- Moderating creative and written entries
- Sending notifications
- Monitoring analytics
- Exporting monthly winners
- Exporting the final leaderboard
We also built an admin support tool that allowed an administrator to view the platform as a specific pharmacist. That meant Eucerin could reproduce what a pharmacist was seeing when someone needed help.

The Outcome and Value
The four-month campaign gave Eucerin a way to turn product education into an ongoing marketing channel rather than a one-time training exercise. Pharmacists had a reason to return throughout the campaign, giving Eucerin repeated opportunities to reinforce product knowledge and keep its range in front of the people recommending it at the point of sale.
The platform also moved campaign management in-house. Eucerin’s team could schedule challenges, review submissions, manage rewards, send notifications, and export results without hiring a full-time developer and breaking the campaign budget.
The business got a reusable platform for running a four-month pharmacist engagement campaign, with the learning, competition, rewards, and reporting handled in one place.
