Drupal to WordPress Migration

Have a better editorial experience and lower dev costs.

Drupal is a powerful CMS, and an expensive one to maintain. Custom module development, developer-dependent content updates, and the overhead of keeping up with Drupal's major version cycle push many organizations to migrate to WordPress, where the editorial team can work independently and development costs are lower.

Our approach

Content model first, then the build, then the data.

A Drupal migration stands or falls on the content model, so we map every content type, taxonomy, and field to its WordPress equivalent before building anything. The new site takes shape on staging, content moves with a scripted import, and every old URL gets a 301 redirect. The price is fixed after the content audit.

What we do

The real reasons Drupal sites migrate to WordPress.

Editorial teams can't self-serve

In Drupal, content editors frequently need developer involvement to create new content types, adjust layouts, or manage media. WordPress’s Gutenberg editor and Elementor give non-technical teams far more autonomy without requiring a developer for routine content work.

Developer availability and cost

Qualified Drupal developers are harder to find and more expensive than WordPress developers. The talent pool is smaller, hiring takes longer, and agency rates are higher. Organizations managing ongoing development costs feel this acutely.

Major version upgrade overhead

Drupal’s major version upgrades (7 to 9, 9 to 10) are not in-place updates. They require significant development work and custom module rebuilding. Drupal 7’s end of life and the Drupal 9 to 10 cycle push many organizations to evaluate whether the migration cost is better spent moving platforms entirely.

Plugin and extension availability

WordPress has 60,000+ plugins covering virtually every common website requirement, most free or inexpensive. Drupal’s module ecosystem is solid but smaller, and many modules require significant custom development to configure for specific use cases.

Hosting simplicity

Drupal’s hosting requirements are more demanding than WordPress. Managed Drupal hosting options are fewer and more expensive. WordPress has an extensive ecosystem of managed hosting (WP Engine, Kinsta, Cloudways) that simplifies operations and reduces infrastructure cost.

Drupal 7 end of life

Drupal 7 reached end of life in January 2025. Sites still on Drupal 7 are no longer receiving security updates, a meaningful risk for any organization with compliance requirements or user data. Migration off D7 is urgent, not optional.

Our process

How we move your Drupal site to WordPress without losing anything.

1

Content and structure audit

Document all Drupal content types, taxonomies, fields, user roles, URL structures, and media assets. Map each to its WordPress equivalent. Identify any custom modules that need a plugin replacement or custom development.

2

WordPress build on staging

Build the new WordPress site on a staging environment. Custom post types and ACF fields replicate your Drupal content structure. Page builder templates are built and approved before content imports.

3

Content migration

Database-level migration using the Migrate API or custom scripts. All nodes, taxonomy terms, users, files, and media transferred. Body content cleaned and reformatted for WordPress. We verify every content type post-import.

4

URL redirect mapping

Every Drupal URL mapped to its WordPress equivalent. 301 redirects configured for all old paths. We run a crawl of the old site to ensure no URL is missed. This step protects your existing search rankings.

5

Launch and post-launch monitoring

DNS cutover during off-peak hours. Post-launch monitoring for broken links, redirect chains, and crawl errors. Google Search Console resubmission. 30-day post-launch warranty included.

Common questions

Drupal to WordPress migration questions.

Not if the migration is done correctly. The primary risk to rankings is broken URLs: if your Drupal URLs don’t redirect to the corresponding WordPress URLs, Google loses the link equity and ranking signals associated with those pages. We build a complete redirect map before launch, verify every old URL has a redirect, and monitor Google Search Console in the 30 days following launch. Migrations we’ve handled have maintained rankings throughout, but it requires careful redirect mapping, not a “launch and hope” approach.

Drupal Views typically get replaced by WordPress custom queries, WP_Query arguments, and optionally a plugin like FacetWP for complex filtering. Custom modules get evaluated individually; most common module functionality has a direct WordPress plugin equivalent. Highly custom modules get rebuilt as WordPress plugins. We document all module replacements during the content audit phase so there are no surprises during the build.

Content volume has less impact on timeline than content complexity. A site with 10,000 simple blog posts can migrate faster than a site with 500 nodes but 15 custom content types with complex field structures. Our typical range is 6 to 16 weeks from project kickoff to launch, more for enterprise sites with extensive custom development requirements. We provide a detailed timeline after the content audit.

Drupal migrations are quoted individually after a review, because content volume and custom module use vary widely. The price depends on the number of nodes and content types, how Views and custom modules are rebuilt in WordPress, multilingual content, and the redirects needed to keep rankings. Mid-sized sites typically take 4 to 8 weeks, with a fixed price agreed before work begins.

Yes. Drupal nodes map to WordPress posts, pages, or custom post types, and content types with their fields are recreated so structured content stays structured and editable. We map the model during scoping before importing.

For most teams, yes. WordPress has a larger talent pool, simpler editing, and a vast plugin ecosystem, which lowers maintenance cost and hiring difficulty. Drupal’s power comes with complexity that many teams no longer need.

Urgent. Drupal 7 reached end of life in January 2025 and no longer receives security updates, which is a real risk for any organization with compliance requirements or user data. We migrate Drupal 7, 9, 10 and 11 sites.

Yes. Multilingual Drupal sites move to WordPress using a multilingual plugin such as WPML or Polylang, preserving each language version and its URLs. We scope the language structure up front so nothing is dropped.

They come across too. Users are transferred at the database level, through the Migrate API or custom scripts, and user roles are documented in the content audit and mapped to their WordPress equivalents before the import.

You can, or we can. WordPress is simpler to run day to day than Drupal, so most teams manage content themselves. For updates, backups, and security we offer maintenance plans, which many former Drupal teams prefer over in-house upkeep.
