WordPress Backup and Recovery

Because a backup isn’t useful until you can restore it.

Most WordPress sites have a backup. Fewer have one that’s been opened since the day it was made. We set up daily offsite backups and restore them on staging to prove they work, well before the day that matters.

Our approach

Four ways a backup fails the day you need it.

Backups stored on the same server as the site

A hack, a deletion, or a hosting failure takes the server and everything on it, backups included. That’s how a client of ours lost 2,800 pages and the stored backup together. Offsite storage on S3, Google Cloud or Backblaze keeps the copy somewhere the failure leaves untouched.

File-only backups restore an empty site

Your posts, pages, products and orders live in the database. Restore files alone and you get your theme and plugins back on a blank WordPress install. A complete backup saves files and database together, in sync.

Backups that stayed sealed

Corrupted archives, incomplete transfers and permission errors all surface at the same moment: the first time someone tries to restore. Testing moves that moment to a Tuesday on staging, instead of the morning your site is down.

Infrequent backups on active sites

A weekly backup puts 7 days of orders, content and customer data on the line. For a WooCommerce store or a site publishing daily, daily is the floor, and real-time database replication is worth pricing out.

Our process

How we get your site to a backup you can trust.

01

Audit

We review your current setup: what actually gets backed up, where it’s stored, how often it runs, and whether a restore has ever been tested.

02

Configure

Daily automated backups of files and database together, stored offsite on Amazon S3, with failure alerts, and 30-day retention on Professional and Business.

03

Prove the restore

We restore the backup on a staging environment to prove it works before you ever need it.

04

Keep verifying

Restore tests run quarterly on every managed site, and we’re notified immediately if a backup job fails.

Pricing

Backups are included in every Mineweb maintenance plan.

Backups come with every maintenance plan. They’re a baseline, not an add-on, so there’s no standalone product to buy. And a site with a backup problem usually has a maintenance problem behind it.

Starter

Monthly core, plugin, and theme updates, tested on staging first. Daily offsite backups, quarterly restore tests, and backup failure alerts. Hourly uptime monitoring. Weekly security scanning. Email support with a same business day response. Monthly performance report.

Professional

Everything in Starter, plus daily backups with 30-day retention, 2 developer hours a month, priority support with a same business day response, malware removal if infected, a monthly video call, and Core Web Vitals monitoring.

Business

Everything in Professional, including 30-day retention, plus 5 developer hours a month, emergency response within 2 business hours, WooCommerce-specific monitoring, monthly database optimization, quarterly performance optimization, and phone and Slack access.

Common questions

WordPress backup questions answered.

Rarely, and for four reasons. Host backups sit on the same infrastructure as your site, so a data-loss event at the host takes both. They usually run weekly rather than daily. Restoring means opening a support ticket and waiting in a queue. And the first full-site restore most of them attempt is yours. A host’s backup exists to protect the host.

For clients on our maintenance plans, we start the restore as soon as we pick up your request, within your plan’s response time. Once it starts, most sites are back up within 1 to 2 hours. For large WooCommerce stores with large databases, expect 2 to 4 hours. Before we restore, we confirm with you which recovery point you want to roll back to. Bad update, hack, or human error, the process is the same.

Yes, as a one-time setup at a fixed price. That covers configuration, offsite storage, daily automated runs, 30-day retention, and a test restore to confirm the whole thing works. After setup it’s yours to run. Roll into a maintenance plan later and we monitor and test it for you.

ManageWP for most managed clients, paired with Amazon S3 offsite storage. For higher-volume sites and WooCommerce stores with large databases, UpdraftPlus Pro or BlogVault, depending on database size and replication needs. The tool follows the site.

A standalone setup is a one-time fixed price, agreed before we start. It depends on the size of your site and database, how often the content changes, and whether you need real-time database replication. Ongoing managed backups come with every maintenance plan, and the plan price covers them.

As often as the site changes. A brochure site can run weekly. An active store needs daily, or real-time replication if orders are constant. On our maintenance plans, backups run daily on every site, so a restore costs you hours of work rather than weeks.

Offsite on Amazon S3, separate from your hosting. A server failure or a hack reaches the site and leaves the backup standing. Each one holds your database (posts, pages, settings, orders) and your files (themes, plugins, uploads), captured together and in sync, so a restore brings back the whole site.

Find out what happens if you restore today.

We’ll look at your current setup and tell you what you’d get back, what you’d lose, and how long it would take.
