The 12 WooCommerce plugins we actually install on client stores

Not a 40-item list assembled from affiliate payouts. These are the plugins running on the stores we build and maintain, and the reasoning behind each one.

Table of Contents

Every ‘best WooCommerce plugins’ list on the internet has the same problem: it’s written to rank, not to recommend. Forty plugins, most of which the author has never installed, ranked by affiliate commission.

This list is different in one specific way: it’s the actual stack we deploy on client stores. Twelve plugins, each earning its place on production sites that process real revenue. Where a plugin has a real weakness, we say so.

Payments and checkout

1. WooPayments or Stripe for WooCommerce

Card payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link with clean checkout UX. Stripe’s fraud tooling is the best in the business. WooPayments (built on Stripe) adds in-dashboard management and is our default on new stores; the standalone Stripe plugin wins when a store needs more granular control.

2. CheckoutWC

Replaces WooCommerce’s default multi-step checkout with an optimized single-page flow. On stores where we’ve deployed it, it consistently pulls abandonment down several points. Paid, and worth it: checkout is the worst possible place to cut costs.

Revenue expansion

3. WooCommerce Subscriptions

The standard for recurring billing: trials, prorations, dunning, customer self-service. It’s not cheap and its settings run deep, but it’s the plugin we trust with clients’ recurring revenue. We build subscription stores around it.

4. Wholesale Suite

B2B pricing on a DTC store without running two sites: customer-group pricing, wholesale order forms, and registration workflows. The stack we reach for when a brand adds wholesale. More on B2B WooCommerce here.

5. FunnelKit (Upsells + Automations)

Post-purchase one-click upsells and email automation tuned for WooCommerce. The post-purchase upsell is the highest-ROI feature: the buyer already committed, and a relevant add-on converts at rates paid traffic can’t touch.

Performance

6. WP Rocket

Page caching, delayed JavaScript, database cleanup, all WooCommerce-aware out of the box (cart and checkout excluded automatically). The rare performance plugin that rarely breaks things.

7. Imagify

Automatic WebP conversion and compression on upload. Product-photo-heavy stores bleed speed through images; this stops it at the source without anyone remembering to optimize.

Operations and safety

8. WP Activity Log

Records who changed what, when: price edits, plugin installs, permission changes. On multi-person stores this settles ‘what happened’ questions in minutes and surfaces compromised accounts fast.

9. Wordfence

Firewall, malware scanning, login protection. The free tier covers most stores; premium’s real-time firewall rules are justified once revenue depends on uptime. Whatever you choose, security is a stack, not a plugin.

10. WP All Import + WooCommerce add-on

Bulk product imports from any CSV or XML, with scheduling for supplier feeds. Unglamorous and indispensable for catalogs past a few hundred SKUs.

Marketing

11. Klaviyo for WooCommerce

Abandoned cart flows, post-purchase sequences, and segmentation driven by real order data. For DTC brands, the abandoned cart flow is the one to build first: in Klaviyo’s 2026 benchmarks it brings in more revenue per recipient than any other flow ($6.77 per email on average).

12. Rank Math SEO

Product schema, sitemaps, and on-page SEO handling with better WooCommerce depth than the default choices. The free tier does more than most stores ever use.

What’s deliberately missing

No page builder add-on bundles, no ‘ultimate addons’ packs, no multipurpose plugins that do nine things adequately. Every plugin is code your store loads on every request. The stack above is lean on purpose: twelve plugins doing twelve jobs well beats forty doing everything badly. It’s half of why most WooCommerce stores are slow and the ones we run aren’t.

We’ll review what’s installed, what’s slowing the store down, what’s a security risk, and what’s missing, with a prioritized recommendation list.
